We know that battery anxiety is a perpetual complaint for many. Carrying extra cables and plugs, or small battery packs, and their cables, can take their toll. Anker has a bunch of new products ready to come to the rescue, with maximum style and minimum faff.
All the products just launched at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona are Qi2-compatible.
Qi2
Qi2 (pronounced chee-too) is a standard for wireless charging which includes a Magnetic Power Profile, based on Apple’s MagSafe, and means there’s a ring of magnets to make sure your phone and charging pad are perfectly aligned. Qi2 also offers faster charging than the Qi standard which came before, a full 15W power.
Qi2 works with phones beyond iPhones, though if your phone lacks the circle of magnets Qi2 offers, you’ll need a phone case with magnets in, say, or to place your device carefully.
Anker MagGo Power Bank (10K)
$89.99 from amazon.com, £89.99 from amazon.co.uk
First cab off the rank is the MagGo PowerBank (10K), with the figures in brackets indicating the battery has 10,000mAh capacity. It’s a neat, if chunky, rectangle with a pleasantly smooth finish and rounded corners.
It has a smart screen on the edge which has an icon to show how much charge is left in the pack, as well as a figure showing the exact percentage. Below that is the time, showing how long before the pack is depleted. This figure dances about crazily for a few seconds while the battery works out what’s what and then settles down. If you’re recharging it, this shows how long until it’s full again.
There’s a kickstand so you can do a FaceTime call, say, while you’re charging and iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 Pro handsets can be placed in landscape orientation to activate StandBy.
The USB-C socket on the side is where you recharge the pack, though with a cable you can charge a device by cable if you prefer. When you plug the pack into the wall (USB-C cable is supplied, charging brick isn’t), you can put the phone on top so the pack can recharge itself and the phone simultaneously.
Anker MagGo Power Bank 6.6K
$69.99 from amazon.com, £69.99 from amazon.co.uk
This one is chunkier still, even though the capacity is lower, 6,600mAh, because of a cunning design. A discreet hinge means the top section folds up to present the phone at the angle best suited to FaceTime or StandBy. And Anker says that charging is faster when the stand is extended. The base is weighted to ensure the whole thing doesn’t topple over, even with an iPhone 15 Pro Max attached. Like the MagGo PowerBank (10K), you can recharge the pack and a phone or other device at the same time when it’s plugged into the wall.
Anker MagGo Wireless Charger (15W)
This elegant and understated metal-based pad is similar to Apple’s MagSafe charging pad, but this one is Qi2-compatible. It has a decent weight and looks and feels great.
Anker MagGo Wireless Charging Station (Foldable 3-In-1)
$109.99 from amazon.com, £99.99 from amazon.co.uk
Finally, this is a brilliant travel pack. Take this unit and the supplied cable and charging plug, and you’re covered for three devices. The main Qi2 pad folds up a the front and holds your iPhone, for instance, while a dedicated Apple Watch charging puck folds up from underneath at the back.
In between sits another charging pad, ideal for AirPods, for instance, though this is Qi-, rather than Qi2-compatible.
